3STEP Sports Expands 3d Lacrosse

Atlanta, GA – May 9, 2025— 3d Georgia, a top-tier boys’ lacrosse club in the state of Georgia and part of the nationally recognized 3d Lacrosse network, is proud to announce the launch of a new girls’ lacrosse program for the fall of 2025. This expansion comes through the acquisition of Southern Zone (“SoZo”) Lacrosse, an elite girls club based in Atlanta and one of the region’s most respected player development programs.

The move combines 3d Georgia’s elite training model and national network with Southern Zone’s established foundation and success in girls’ lacrosse in Georgia. The result is a dynamic new opportunity for female athletes in Georgia and the Southeast to receive next-level coaching, compete at the highest levels, and be part of a nationally connected lacrosse experience.

“We’re thrilled to officially bring the 3d Lacrosse training, methodology, and national exposure to girls lacrosse in Georgia,” said James Leary, Director of 3d Georgia. “By incorporating Southern Zone, we’re combining strengths to create a truly unmatched developmental pathway for young women in the sport.”

“For 10 years, SoZo has provided the Atlanta girls lacrosse market with high level coaching and a competitive experience, while respecting the person behind the player,” said Clare Boothe, owner of Southern Zone Lacrosse. “Our decision to join 3d Lacrosse was fueled by a desire to offer our families ’more’– more resources, more support, and more training opportunities. We’ve had an unofficial partnership with 3d Georgia for many years—this makes it official. I’m truly excited for this next chapter for our Southern Zone players!”

“We are excited to see one of our premier club brands, 3d Lacrosse, continue to grow its offering in girls’ lacrosse at a time when the sport is experiencing incredible growth,” said Greg Waldbaum, President of 3STEP Sports. “We look forward to empowering the Southern Zone players with proven training methodologies and expanded programming as part of the 3d family.”

The newly formed 3d Georgia girls’ program will offer competitive club teams, seasonal training, clinics, camps, National team opportunities, and access to recruiting support and national events through 3d Lacrosse’s extensive platform.

Woburn, Mass (January 9, 2025) – 3STEP Sports announced today that the National Academy League (NAL), operated by 3STEP Soccer, has been selected to operate an expanded competition tier of MLS NEXT.

MLS NEXT, operated by Major League Soccer, is the elite platform for youth development in North America – currently with 151 member clubs and over 16,000 players. The newly expanded MLS NEXT competition tier will increase the number of clubs in MLS NEXT and deepen the overall pool of players and coaches.

“We think it is wonderful that MLS NEXT has expanded its pathway to give access to more clubs and players,” said Ian Burgess, Vice President of 3Step Soccer. “National Academy League has a proven record of working with MLS NEXT Elite Academies and other top clubs. We are thrilled to support MLS NEXT to unite the youth soccer landscape and enhance player development.”

The expanded tier of MLS NEXT will be managed by leading league operators across the youth landscape with a strong commitment to player development. The operators will follow mandated program guidelines and technical standards set by MLS NEXT to ensure a high-quality product.

Starting in September 2025, clubs in the program will compete in regular season games, regional tournaments, and various MLS NEXT national events as well as coaching development and education programs, talent identification, and high-performance opportunities.

“The addition of a new tier to MLS NEXT reflects Major League Soccer’s continued dedication to growing the game at the youth level,” said MLS NEXT Technical Director Luis Robles. “We are excited to deepen the talent pool and welcome more players and coaches as we work with them to develop the next generation of talent who will impact the professional game and national teams.”
