Penn Monto to Become Official Ball of 3STEP Sports Field Hockey
November 15, 2021
WILMINGTON, Mass., Nov. 15, 2021 – 3STEP Sports, the nation’s largest youth sports club and event operator, is proud to announce that Penn Monto will be the official ball of 3Step Sports field hockey effective immediately.
In addition to being the official ball supplier to the NCAA, Penn Monto is also the official ball supplier to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. Penn Monto started in 1978 and has been synonymous with field hockey balls for more than three decades. The company has also developed a line of “mini balls” designed to help younger field hockey players develop their stick and ball handling skills. The same concept exists in most youth sports and Penn Monto wanted to help young field hockey players progress quicker with a lighter ball.
The Penn Monto mini ball is the same circumference as a regulation ball, but it weighs 3.50 ounces compared to 5.75 ounces of a regulation ball. A lighter ball makes it easier for young field hockey players to train, and it also helps eliminate bad habits. The mini balls will be used at 3Step’s U12 Shooting Star events in 2022.
“By matching the size and weight of the ball to the development stage of a player, skills can be performed with more success and more desirable movement patterns,” said Penn Monto president Carol Anderson.
The 3STEP reach spans 40+ states and serves more than 2.5 million athletes across eight sports through industry-leading events, nationally spanning club programs, premier media content and more. The mission of 3STEP is to be the standard of the youth sports experience and create consistency in the industry.
“We are very excited to grow our relationship with Penn Monto that has been established for over 20 years of servicing College Connection and Elite Field Hockey,” said Ainslee Lamb, 3Step Sports VP of Field Hockey. “The new partnership commitment will impact all Shooting Star tournaments and foster the growth of the U12 game with the introduction of the mini ball for all our U12 sponsored events.”
